Terminology see
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=47025-----------------
All these groups are defined only by a set of characters which are not still checked together.
Example - Separation between
Symphyta &
Apocrita : The body of
Symphyta in dorsal view has a very little or no constriction near its middle between abdominal segments 1 & 2, yet some
Chalcidoidea (which are
Apocrita) have this characteristic of
Symphyta.
Other Example - Some SubFamilies belonging to
Ichneumonoidea, were brought out of
Braconidae to be included in
Ichneumonidea (and conversely), or still have constituted new Families.
Thus the structure of wings, which are classically used to differentiate
Braconidae and
Ichneumonidae, is less simple than it appears.
So we cannot define simply that is a Ichneumonidae.
What I shall advise to the beginners, it is to view the images on Internet (...) to impregnate with the habitus of
Ichneumonidae.
