nice photo... don't see any characters to make an full ID, but from what I see is not Anax. I will go more on Aeshna genus... will be nice to have some photos from dorsal view and to go for an ID to have detailed photo of caudal pyramid (lateral and dorsal view). here you can see some photos with exuvia of Anax parthenope... and the head is much more roundish. cosmln |

I don't want to push it... but look a lot like Boyeria irene (Fonscolombe, 1838) but I'm familiar only with larva of Boyeria cretensis Peters, 1991. can you confirm or infirm that on the abdomen, segment eight is a whitish spot (will put later here photos with larva of B.cretensis so you will have something to compare). Don't know when gomphus will be back, maybe he will put light on this. LE: the topic on B.cretensis is here. cosmln |

I) larva of Boyeria irene (Fonscolombe, 1838); a dorsal light (bright yellow in living specimens) spot on segment 8, and often a smaller one on 9, is very frequent, but sometimes lacking; yet occiput posterior angles sharp and nearly right are diagnostic for the genus |
