Hi Lenny, very nice wasp! Considering the shape of mandibles and the body structure I would say Trigonopsis sp. (Sphecidae) though, as many diagnostic features are not visible in the pictures, I cannot completely rule out another possibility, genus Podium. I think the former is much more likely, however. Ciao Maurizio, thank you for the ID! Now I know they are very useful as they catch our cockroaches in the (open) kitchen. Maybe some further pictures can help to be sure. |

Hi Lenny, very recently I had the chance to study some specimens of Trigonopsis and now I can say that your insect is a Trigonopsis cameroni Kohl, 1902, the only species of the genus known to occurr also north of Panama. Beautiful pictures! Maurizio |
