I would like help with identification of the species.

It was the biggest Wasp I've ever seen. Its length is around 45-50mm. Bumblebee, scale can be taken.
Plant: Onopordum sp.

I wasn't expecting the type description of Bombus, that extra info was good :hp: :) Thanks a lot Giorgio. :ok:
There is something I don't understand. Most M. maculata females have a yellow head (Male black). Why is this orange? Is it related to subspecies? :?:

Also in Italy females of M. m. flavifrons have head yellow to orange color; actually this variability must be specific of single specimen. :hi:
