Member of the genus Aphaenogaster of testaceopilosa group. Taxonomy of the genus Aphaenogaster is still unclear, the group tends to form a local population of high endemism, especially on islands. Probably many "cryptic" species occur in the genus. |

Hi Lech, is senilis in testaceopilosa group? |

Yes, senilis is in this group and it is very probable that the species on photo belongs to the A. senilis but the group needs revision based on molecular studies because borders between species are often unclear. |

Grazie a Lech che ha potuto osservare de visu l'esemplare; possiamo ora rinominare come Aphaenogaster senilis Mayr, 1853
