hi milo i already knew this locality, the species is seemingly not yet recorded for greece; maybe an intermediate to Cicindela (s. str.) sylvatica fasciatopunctata Germar, 1845 from nw anatolia (ulu dag), or even true fasciatopunctata? |

Hi Maurizio I am not a specialist in Cicindelidae, but ssp.sylvatica living in a habitat type (low position on the sandy surface in the pine forests). This is a very different habitat alpine zone.... I am very curious what others think should be experts Cicindelidae. Thank you for your opinion Maurizio! |

hi milo maybe the habitat just varies according to latitude and local condition... yet the habitat you say appears quite like that where i have collected fasciatopunctata on uludag: alpine biotope (about 2000 mt), above tree level, covered with dwarf pine (Pinus pumilio) scrub |

Well, my friends, I also collected them two yaers ago on the same spot Kaimaktsalan Mt. during an entomological expedition to Voras Montains. However, I don't think it's the specimen of "ssp. fasciatopunctata Germar, 1845". This subspecies is known only from Turkey occuring in the provincies of Bursa, Istanbul and Sivas. I think that most probably it would be the "ssp. sylvatica Linnaeus, 1758" which occur in neighboring Macedonia (FYROM) - the Kaimaktsalan Mt. is a border montain. However, it's a very good finding because that may be a new record for Greece mainland.

I have found on Internet Archive an entomological article named "On the variation of species, with especial reference to the Insecta" partly related to the specimen above, where the autor say: I have remarked that the Cicindelidae often become inconstant in colouring as they approach their maximum of height above the sea; and I have but little doubt that the C. fasciatopunctata, Germ., from Asia Minor and Turkey, is the C. sylvatica modified by a long residence in elevated regions. http://www.archive.org/stream/onvariati ... l_djvu.txt |
