Hi all,

I've collected this Brachinus in Sardegna on light. It reminds me of B. elegans but this species does not occur on Sardegna. Can someone help me? Size~ 11-12mm

Thanks!

For sure it does. I know it of several localities.

Ah! good to know.

Do you agree this is B. elegans?

Mmm, it could be, but I am not that good at separating elegans from psophia on photos, and sometimes also on real.

There is a character that distinguishes the two species, assuming that one of the photo has the abdomen clearly, and not dark.
The character is in the bristles at the base of the prothorax.

The 'elegans has twice longer than those of the psophia.

At least I do, I always determined by this.

So, if you have the abdomen dark, for me, is a likely B. crepitans
