Hi,

This ssp. was not yet presented on the forum, so I give it a go.
Was my first time ti see this species, and her comportment was completely different from the the other Cicindelinae that I know. Photographed and collected in 23.july.2010 in Alba county (46.290641/23.073839). Will post later also a photo of a prepared specimen.

so... Cylindera (Cylindera) germanica germanica (Linnaeus, 1758)

Hello Cosmin. What do you mean with different comportament?
The first time I found this specie I was in Greece in a field of Medicago sativa L.
We (my friend Cesare Iacovone and me) stopped the car to perform a physiological need. Near the road there were a lot of specimens (probably hundreds), but none of them tried to fly. They only run on the ground. Returned home, I found that they were quite short-winged.

Another time I was in Northern Italy, Lodi (near Milan), on the banks of the river Adda, and I found a couple of specimens. But they were able to fly! Is this species like some Carabus (C. granulatus interstitialis), with populations with wings of different lenght?

at least the Cicindelinae I have meet until now were very eager to go in open field and fly (also preferring to land in open field).
this searched for cover in vegetation and seen only few times to fly.
and more interesting at least for me is that a friend is finding this over night in pitfall trap (yesterday morning two were found, a day before one...), how common is this?

also posting here a mounted specimen, leg. Cosmin O. Manci / 23.july.2010

Also apulian populations of Cylindera germanica muelleri are perfectly able to fly, and they do if you approach them at less than two meters!!!
