1 Hind femora entirely light, rarely apically blackened; antennal scape black, following segments typically light, but 2nd and 3rd sometimes partly blackened; pronotum with spots of pubescence always clearly distinct. Subspecies from Europe except for the northern part; also in Balkans (Bulgaria), European Russia and Caucasian region ..................................................... S. rufus rufus (L.) – Hind femora always at least partly black ........................................................... 2 2 Antennae with 2nd and following segments red; front and hind margin of pronotum usually with spots of dense yellowish pubescence well separated at middle; hind femora more widely blackened; elytra sometimes more or less narrowed and divaricate towards apex. Distributed from south-western Turkey to coastal plains of Syria and Israel ................................................ S. rufus syriacus Pic – First four antennal segments at least partly blackened; front and hind margin of pronotum with less evident spots of grey pubescence (often indistinct or lacking); hind femora only blackened at apex. South-eastern subspecies, mostly distributed from Balkans to north-eastern Turkey ........................................................................... S. rufus geniculatus Kraatz |
