Hi,

Collected this female of Monochamus in 31.july.2010 on logs of Picea in Transylvania (45.78115 / 26.18223), size of the specimen is 21 mm.
The scutellum with almost no hairs is letting me out. Is possible to have a full ID?

Grazie,
cosmln

Dear Cosmin,
It looks like an old specimen of Monochamus sartor with worn out pubescence on both scutellum and elytra. However, from this picture (although very good) it not possible to check whether a distinct transverse depression does exist on the basal quarter.

Dear Gianfranco,

Sorry for the quality of this photo, just to see if the depression is/not there. From what I see is there so this will be a small (at least comparing with what I have in collection) and worn female. From what I see depression is there so this will be Monochamus sartor (Fabricius, 1787), please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks a lot for helping me with this,
cosmln

Hi Cosmin
I get a short Trip to Sovata exactely in Valea Sebesului (Transylvania) last Week end, thereby I earned two female M. sartor, even on Spruce Fir logs. How just confirmed by our expert Gianfranco, yours isn't easy to determine exactly 'cause altered by age, but considering the plant also, I trust to say, most likely M. sartor
