Who knows? :D Specimens from Romania and Central Bulgaria are not mentioned in the publication.
Also the Agapanthia on the picture was collected on Knautia sp.
Thanks for noticing ,Ivo. :hi:

Dear Joro,
according the picture your Agapanthia is viti. It is known from Romania as well but according a mistake the specimens (that was listed in the paper) was not published (Cosmin knows....). Agapanthia viti is easy to be distinguish from osmanlis (knows from Bulgaria but only from the black sea coast) according the denser pubescence, yellowish colored hairs and flatter body.

I would like to ask Pierpaolo about this taxon:

fact No. 1) this taxon did not occur in Pannonia until 1990´s
fact No. 2) The only taxon from group "A. osmanlis" known for Balkan peninsula til 1990´s was A. osmanlis from coastal Bulgaria
fact No. 3) During the last decade of 20. century and first decade of 21. century the expansion of this taxon from SE Balkan north-westwards to Romania and Hungary was observed..

question: is possible to consider this new pannonian population as a distinct species? According to different pubescence and flatter body? What about "founder effect"?

Hi Jan,
to answer at your question is not easy. First I'm not sure that this animal is "arrived" in Pannonia last 20 years. It is really possible that nobody collected it before. It is the same for Leiopus femoratus in Italy. It is known only from last 10/15 years (except for few very old records in Southern Italy). Now it is known from more or less all Italy. Why? I believe for missing of research in the past.
Anyway the problem is not so important because Agapanthia viti is really different from osmanlis (I check the type speciem). I confirm you that Agapanthia osmanlis in Europe till now is known only from costal Bulgaria and possible European Turkey.

A.osmanlis was known also from Romania, see Panin & Savulescu, 1965 (Comana, 1965) ... citation done from head... now I'm in the field.
First "A.osmanlis" that I have collected near Timisoara (west of Romania) were around 10 years ago.

Thank you Cosmin. Of course A. osmanlis of Panin & Savulescu was surely A. viti. I've seen specimens of A. viti from Serbia from the first 1980, maybe older.
Good luk for your collecting.
Pierpaolo
