Nothorhina muricata (Dalman, 1817) - very rare species in central Europe, dependent on old, sun exposed Pinus trees. It is often considered to be montane species, but all Czech localities are placed in lowlands. This species seems to be connected rather with old relict pine growths (rocks, sandy localities..), then with montane localities. This misinterpretation was probably based on the fact, that most of relict pine forests in central and southern Europe are preserved in higher altitudes nowadays.
This species is considered to have nocturnal activity, but it was often observed during the daytime. Adults are hidden in bark crevices, males are quicky running from one crevice to another, looking for females. Stridulation was noticed many times.
The attacked tree is well-recognizable by resin flow. The best way how to "expell" adults from bark crevices is by using tobacco smoke.. :gun:. Czech republic, southern Bohemia, Třeboň env., 29. 6. 2008

Recently there are only a few localities in Czech republic.
Adult on the picture was captured in Czech republic, southern Bohemia, Třeboň env., 29. 6. 2008.

For Cosmin: You don´t have to start smoking, but it is a little easier for smokers to collect these beetles :gh:
It is not necessary to inhale the smoke into your lungs - just use only your mouth :ok: Problem is, that you "burn out" your mouth and lose a taste for several days after "smoking" one packet of cigarettes
Jaho is right - you must use exhaustor or very soft/fine pincette, adults lose legs and antennae very easily being caught "roughly" by fingers.. :hi:
