This time my short photo-report on the meetings with Necydalis major LINNAEUS, 1758.

This species I get to know a few times in different locations in Poland, both as larvae and as imagines.
This is a typical polifagus. I bred him with both birch (Betula sp.) and poplar (Populus sp.), alder (Alnus sp.) as black cherry (Padus sp). I also noticed the larvae in other trees, such as willow (Salix sp.), oak (Qercus sp.) and hornbeam (Carpinus sp.).
Imagines I encountered rarely, because they have a short period of occurrence. I found it on wood or on flowers of plants of the family Umbelliferae.

Necydalis major:

Larva: 24 III 2003 (from Populus tremula), imago: 02 V 2004

Very interesting, but are you sure of dates? 2003 and 2004?

Yes, I'm sure these dates, Maurizio.
The first specimen of N. major I found in 2000. :cap:

I asked you because you wrote "Larva: 24 III 2003 (from Populus tremula)", but checking EXIF data of your photo of the larva, I can see this photo was made using a Nikon COOLPIX S700.
Now, this camera was marketed from 2007. :?

La larva non è la stessa (infatti sulla foto c'è scritto che è stata "estratta" da Betulla).
Presumo quindi che le foto in natura siano successive ed incluse al fine di documentare la biologia di quella specie.

That's what I wanted to show - to present the biology of the species. :ok:
I have shown in this topic pictures I did in different places and at different times, in the years 2002 - 2013.

Ok, thank you very much. I simply supposed it was a mistake and you had in your mind to write 2013 and 2014, but erroneously you wrote 2003 an 2004.

Surely I am curious. You posts are always very interesting, and most of them are on species I never found in my life (this is one of them).
