Xylotrechus pantherinus (Savenius, 1825)
Larvae of this rare species develop only in goat willow (Salix caprea), preferably in dead wood of living trees and bushes..
Whole development take place in dead wood inside absolutely sound trunk or thicker branch of the host plant. Female oviposits into dead parts, for example areas without bark, or bases of dead branches, attached to the living trunk. Larvae enter the dead wood inside living tissue, the development lasts 2 years, at the end they create pupal cell and exit tunnel, ending just under the bark (or under thin layer of dead wood in case of area without bark..).
On photo No.1 you can see the state after cutting off the living bark near base of dead branch (prepared exit tunnel..), on photo No.2 you can see 2 praepupae - one on the left - in the dead wood inside of the living branch, and second one - on the right - in the pupal cell created in absolutely dead and dry wood of dead lateral branch.. Praepupae pupated just in several days after bringing home, pupal stadium lasts cca 10-14 days..
Photo of imago is from 2006.

In Europe: FR, IT, AT, RO, HU, CZ, SK, DE, PL, NO, SWE, FI, Bielorussia, Russia.
