Scusa, che scrivo in inglese. Il mio italiano non è abbastanza buono.

During my holidays I found this Microhoria species with the nice cloudy silver hairs in the fore half of the elytrae rather abundant on several plants in the east of Mallorca. Their length varies from about 3mm to 3,7mm.

According to the Fauna Europaea there are only 4 species on the Baleares, M. bisplilifasciata, M. balearica, M. brisouti and M. terminata. For the latter there are several photos in the net, but it is rather different from mine. For the first three species I can't find anything.

Does someone know, what it is, or has information for the first three species?

Hello Michael,

unfortunately this group of Microhoria with almost the same livery, is determined by aedeagus.

But !, the extraction is not so easy, because it is necessary that nell'aedeagus there are no air bubbles to view the internal structures.

If you wish, you can send me if you have a male that I extract, to be more secure.

However, it is to be discarded M. terminata, and most likely M. brisouti. M. balearica I have not yet observed, while M. bisplifasciata is quite similar.

You excuse me for my English, I have many difficulties with this language, but using the translator you can understand and also well what one writes.

thank you for your answer. I can understand your english very well. My own isn't any better I guess.

I have collected 7 specimens, so there is a good chance, there are some males under it. Is there a way to distinguish males and females? I can't really see a difference on the underside. You can send me your address via private mail. It would take some days until I have time, but I could send you about 4 of them.

PS I just saw, that, some time ago, you also responded to an old request (Microhoria -> Aulacoderus) from Tenerife. I will look up in my collection, but as far as I remember I have only collected this only specimen and will keep it for myself.

Hi micheal,

to see the differences between males and females, the females have no distinctive character at the apex of the elytra, while the males can have or carvings like this in the photo I insert, or thorns or bows, hey are usually even more pointed .

C'è qualche chiave disponibile sul genere Microhoria in cui siano i 4 specie delle Isole Baleari? Sono interessato perché mi piacerebbe controllarli.

Purtroppo le uniche chiavi sono una quella di:

[Krekich-Strassoldo 1929 Revision der paläarktischen Anthicus-Arten der Gruppe „Bifossicolles“ (Gruppe XVIII in Marseul Monographie)]

attualmente sia per i disegni dell'habitus, che in particolare degli edeagi, si avvicinano molto alla realtà, che comprende le specie paleartiche di allora.

Poi l'ultima di:

[Uhmann 1992 Die Anthicidae der Iberischen Halbinsel. 22. Beitrag zur Kenntnis der Anthicidae]

questa è proprio specifica perchè comprende la fauna Spagnola incluse le Is. Baleari, anche quest'ultima riporta disegni sia degli esemplari che degli edeagi, ma sono troppo schematizzati, non rendono per nulla, e alle volte sono anche fuorvianti :devil: .
