bellissimo, fantastico, impagabile scusate, vedo ora un dettaglio, che in mezzo agli strameritati complimenti mi era sfuggito Julodis ha scritto: Bellissimo animale! E pensare che mio fratello ha casa a Marausa e non me ne ha mai preso uno! beh, se mal comune fa mezzo gaudio, c'è almeno un altro amico del forum  ...  che passa un bel po' di tempo in quel di marausa, e che a sua volta mi sa che non ne ha ancora visto uno... Cita: Non ho mai trovato un Bolbelasmus. Come vivono? Come i Geotrupes, come i Typhoeus o altro? sono legati a funghi ipogei, tipo tartufi; quindi probabilmente compaiono all'aperto solo in particolari momenti del ciclo vitale in più, crepuscolari e notturni, spesso in zone dove fonti di luce non ce ne sono... insomma, ce le hanno tutte  !

Qualcuno sa indicarmi il lavoro in cui è stato accertato che questi animali si nutrono di tartufi? L'ho sempre sentito dire ma non ho mai verificato le fonti! |

E.g. in the following paper, Bolbelasmus gallicus is mentioned as species which feeds on subterraneous fungi (Tuber nigrum, T. requienii, Rhizopogon sp., Hydnocystis arenaria etc.): RAHOLA FABRA P., 2003-2004: Biologie de Bolbelasmus gallicus (Mulsant, 1842) (Coleoptera: Geotrupidae: Bolboceratinae) dans le departement du Gard (Languedoc, sud de la France). Elytron (Barcelona), 17 : 39-49 (at present, pdf I can't find). Bolbelasmus unicornis was observed in Hungary on Endogone macrocarpa (together with Odonteus armiger), see e.g.: BRATEK Z., PAPP L., MERKL O. & TAKÁCS V. 1992: Föld alatti gombákon élő rovanok. Abstract from Rahola Fabra (2003-2004): "Original observations on the biology of Bolbelasmus gallicus follow a general outline of its taxonomy, phylogeny and biogeography. A thousand observations made over a twenty-year period of time have led to a more precise phenology. They have been completed by 168 dissections which permitted to determine very accurately the age of the imagos and get a better understanding of the species’ biological cycle. Three types of burrows excavated by adults have emerged quite clearly and the laying process is described for the first time. Bolbelasmus gallicus remains however a species difficult to observe owing to its nocturnal and mainly burrowing habits as well as its rather short period of activity." Very surprising is size of the egg of all Bolboceratinae (including B. gallicus) which is, as compared with adult female, incredibly big - see e.g. this picture of the Australian species Bolborhachium anneae Howden:
