bella foto di una bella specie, questo e un po differente da esemplari rumeni (forse e un piu vecchio ???)...

Ma a cosa gli servono quelle mandibole giganti? per scavare? Forse vive in terreno duro e le zampe non bastano? luigi

Così usano le mandibole nelle lotte (tra maschi?) come i cervi volanti ..... Chissà perché proprio in questa specie ..... luigi

Chissà perché proprio in questa specie ..... luigiE' un comportamento che si è evoluto molte volte indipendentemente in gruppi zoologici anche molto diversi. Evidentemente ogni tanto in qualche specie si innesca questo meccanismo, che chiaramente ha un suo valore evolutivo, favorendo la trasmissione dei geni del maschio "più forte". In questo caso il comportamento deve essersi evoluto nella specie ancestrale da cui è derivato tutto il genere, visto che mi pare che tutte le specie di Lethrus, chi più chi meno, presentino queste mandibole così sviluppate nei maschi. |
