Bolbelasmus unicornis is a very rare species in whole distribution area. It has been collected mostly in Hungary and Romania. Comment from my paper (Juřena et al. 2009, in press): "In Central Europe known from southern Germany, Austria, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary (e.g., Tesař 1957, Horion 1958, Stebnicka 1976, Ádám 1994, Köhler & Klausnitzer 1998, Paill 2007). It is a very local and rare species of forest steppe and steppe habitats, and ecotons of Pannonian oak woods. Both larvae and adults feed on subterraneous fungi. In Hungary it was observed on Endogone macrocarpa (Bratek et al. 1992, Nádai 2006). The adults were observed to fly about 0.5 m above the ground but the flight period is very short, only 15-30 minutes, and begins about 40-45 minutes after sunset. D. Juřena and V.Jiříček observed adults in flight at a locality with geographic longitude among 19°55'E-20°00'E between 21.10 and 21.40 CEST on May 25-30 and between 21.30-21.50 CEST on June 15-20. During the last three decades, the species was rather periodically collected in the environs of Štúrovo and in the Cerová vrchovina hills in Slovakia (Týr 1997). Our records from the environs of Čejč in 1999 represent the last records from the Czech Republic. Historical records from the Czech Republic and Slovakia were reported by Zoufal (1922), Čepelák (1926), Fleischer (1927-1930), Hudeček (1930, 1937), Roubal (1936, 1938), Tesař (1957) and Horion (1958). The aduls are active mostly from late May to early July. V.-VII. (VIII.-IX.)." |

allora io mi ricordo che l'amico Tagliaferri a Piacenza li (stessa specie?) prendeva in numero durante le piene del Po. Anche di quelle non ce ne sono piu' come una volta! ciao, Guido |

Bolbelasmus bocchus is known only from southernmost Spain and Portugal and from northern Africa. Bolbelasmus gallicus is recorded only from northern part of Italy (e.g., Liguria), France, Spain and Portugal. Daniel

Open circles in map refer to records collected between 1900-1959, solid circles refer to more recent records (1960-2008). Findings collected prior to 1900 are not figured in the map.

I love Scarabaeoidea, especially Bolboceratinae and Aphodiinae. I envy You your nature and abundance of scarabaeoid species, especially Aphodiinae (e.g., sbgn. Neagolius) I'm looking for some rare Italian species, e.g., Aphodius (Neagolius) penninus, Heptaulacus rasettii, H. testudinarius, Ceratophyus rossii... and all european species of the gn. Paracoptochirus (singularis, vignai, petrovitzi, kozanensis) and all species of the gn. Osmanius (balthasari, dellacasai, persicus). This is my e-mail for agreement of eventual exchange of material: aphodius@seznam.cz |

The authors of photos of Bolbelasmus unicornis inserted here by me are my good friends Filip Trnka from Olomouc, CZ (pics of not prepared specimens collected by me in Slovakia in 2009) and Aleš Sedláček from Hranice, CZ (pictures of prepared specimen collected by Jaroslav Žák in southern Moravia, Czech Republic, in 1999). The author of pictures of Bolbelasmus gallicus inserted here by me is aforesaid my friend Aleš Sedláček. The photographed specimen originates from the collection of my friend Jaroslav Žák, Jezernice, CZ, and was collected in France (Montpellier). Two photos of Bolbelasmus bocchus were taken from web-adress: http://www.kaefer-der-welt.de/bolbelasmus_bocchus.htm (the author's name is U.Schmidt). Dear Guido, I'll sent some photos of Bolbelasmus species, which You can use on your website (with agreement of authors). |
