Good afternoon,
This Serrognathus has a lot of hair inside its mandibles. To the best of my knowledge, there are only four species in Borneo, and three of them have not their mandibles hairy. It remains the fourth one, Serrognathus platymelus, but I can find nowhere any information on it (no description or picture of a male available on the Web).
Therefore I could maybe bet on that species, but a bet has never been an ID, and is in no way a very scientific approach.
I am relying on your expertise to decide on this issue.
Size: 47 mm.
PS: Sorry for the broken mandible, I swear that I did'nt do it myself ! :)

You can find some images of Serrognathus platymelus here ;)
It seems to me this specimen is a male of Serrognathus taurus ssp. subtaurus Maes, 1992 - Lucanidae

Thank you very much, you confirm my other guess of which I didn' speak. I had noticed from my researchs that taurus subtaurus had this kind of hairs, but I did'nt know it was also present in Borneo.
By the way, my working document related to the Borneese Lucanidae is now reaching 101 pages (with photos 5 cm high), but gathering the corresponding information took me plenty of days, and this kind of search, when made by amateurs like me, never reach complete results.
Again, thank you for having increased my knowledge. :)

According to this source, S. taurus subtaurus (= S. taurus borneensis) is the Borneese subspecies of Serrognathus taurus. It is reported both on the Malaysian side of Borneo (Sarawak, Sabah) and on the Indonesian side (West and South Kalimantan).
