Dirk, how many tubercles can you see in the clypeo-frontal suture? One or two? |

two easy tubercules. I think that it's Scarabaeus satyrus (Boheman, 1860). |

Shape of paramera matches completely with the ones of the species belonging to the genus Escarabaeus. On the other hand, Escarabaeus species (E. andrewesi, E. bannuensis, E. cristatus, E. sennariensis and probably others) have only one tubercle in the clypeus-frontal suture. Never seen Scarabaeus satyrus, but according to Barbero et al. (1998) this species is to assign to the group named later (Zídek & Pokorný, 2011) Escarabaeus (ex Mesoscarabaeus, preoccupied name). If the species in the picture really has two tubercles in the clypeo-frontal suture, it should not be an Escarabaeus. Sorry, but I give up... |
