Hi Dirk. This Coprini is rather peculiar - it recalls to me the Microcopris, which are missing from the Afrotropical region, though -, but I think I got to the right conclusion. It should belong to the genus Pseudocopris, comprising only 2 african species: P. tubericollis (Felsche, 1910) and P. lunaticeps (Gillet, 1910). You may check the 6th abdominal sternite: in Pseudocopris it is very large medially, equal to the 2-5 sternites together. Translated from Ferreira (1972): 1. Pronotum bordered laterally. Disc of pronotum punctate........................................lunaticeps (Gillet, 1910) - Pronotum not bordered laterally. Disc of pronotum smooth in the center................tubericollis (Felsche, 1910) From the picture I am not able to understand whether pronotum has a smooth area in the middle or not. |

Hi Dirk, from your picture I still have some doubts, despite I lean towards P. tubericollis. The smooth area of P. tubericollis is not very broad and is placed more or less anteriorly, as I seem to see in your picture. Do you confirm that the area in the red circle is smooth (or at most very feebly punctate)? |
