- Elytra very convex - 2 black spots on base of third interval - 2 fascies on elytra have rehaussed with white squamose - 2 reliefs on base of prothorax It is not Dichromacalles diocletianus but Dichromacalles dromedarius.  Nicolas |

Sarei d'accordo anch'io che si tratti di diocletianus, ma se Tomasz può farci una foto laterale dell'esemplare, dovremmo poterci togliere tutti i dubbi. Recentemente ho rinvenuto entrambe le specie all'Elba e, senza l'edeago, non è sempre facilissimo (almeno per me) distinguerle. Se non erro, (o almeno io per discriminare le due specie, faccio sempre così) il diocletianus non presenta mai i "ciuffi di setole erette" sul pronoto, mentre nel dromedarius queste sono quasi sempre presenti a meno che non si tratti di esemplari molto "vissuti". Inoltre, il dromedarius dovrebbe evere alcune serie di setole erette, nella zona centrale e lungo il declivo delle elitre. Questo è invece quanto scrive Bahr nella sua revisione: Bahr, F. (2001): Revision der Arten der Untergattung Dichromacalles s. str. Stüben, 1998 Dichromacalles diocletianus zeichnet sich aus durch: • 1. einfarbige Bindenzeichnung. • 2. deutlich sichtbare Elytrenpunktur. • 3. breite Elytren: 1,25-1,42x länger als breit. • 4. das zweite Sternit, dies ist kaum länger als die beiden folgenden zusammen. Bei den bearbeiteten Tieren fiel auf, daß D. diocletianus hauptsächlich mit D. dromedarius verwechselt wurde. Dichromacalles dromedarius (*) unterscheidet sich von D. diocletianus durch: • 1* die weiß eingefasste Bindenzeichnung. • 2* die nicht sichtbare, durch die Schuppen ganz bedeckte Elytrenpunktur. ....ora, sebbene io conosca il tedesco alla pari della fisica quantistica  .....direi di capire che Bahr distingue le due specie sostanzialmente per il fatto che in D.dromedarius i punti elitrali non sono visibili perché coperti completamente dalle scaglie, mentre nel D.diocletianus i punti sono perfettamente visibili.

The Bahr's study is the first synthesizing this genus ... and there is much to criticize. I just worked on redesigning and return of a species made synonymous and it's more complex than that. I took and saw numerous specimens for this study. D. dromedarius differs from D. diocletianus mainly by its very convex elytra, its overall color and optionally its squamulation. Visibility or not of elytral points is questionable. Similarly, the fascicles on thorax and elytra are variable among individuals (size, freshness and population). Here the picture does not reflect the original color and I think it is rubbed. If you look closely the élytraux sides show some fascicles of erect bristles and ornamentation is not at all that of D. Diocletianus. I maintain that it is D. dromedarius for this photo. Should be different angle shooting to clearly judge. Nicolas |
