Questo Otiorhynchus da 14 mm era seduto su Cyclotome spinosa. Qualcuno conosce la specie?

Hello Michael !!! it belongs to the tribe Geonemini. To my sense, genus Geonemus. And after these 2 strange projections at the end of the elytrae, most probably is Geonemus caudulatus Fairmaire, 1891, endemic of Mallorca. An extremelly interesting finding !!! Also, new genus to our Forum. * the plant is Calycotome spinosa.  George |

Hello George, thank you for the correction. I already wondered what strange Otiorhynchus specimen it is. It was the old problem with the now obsolete differentiation between Otiorhynchinae and Brachyderinae and the position of the antennal scrobes, which is still used in most keys. In the group about Barynotus I always go wrong... If I go to the Brachyderinae I also end quickly at Geonemus. Then there is the article "Los Geonemus de Espana y Baleares" from Espanol, and yes, the description fits perfectly. The other species are smaller, without cauda, and not on Mallorca. I have a second, somewhat smaller specimen (it was a pair), which I could send you if you are interested. Michael |

Wow, never seen directly a Geonemus in my life, only from photos. Of course I am very interested on it. I check now in my availables, for a return. Thank you very much !!!  The continuation, with a personal message. George |
