Il rove Velleius dilatatus coleottero convive con il calabrone Vespa crabro crabro europeo. Velleius dilatatus è fino a 26 mm di lunghezza. Si nutre di detriti prodotti dalla calabroni (commensalismo). La maggior parte dei nidi contengono una media di dieci V.dilatatus.
