It would be better to macerate the aedeagus in KOH solution... However I would assume X. (Acanthophallus) apenninicola ![]() |

Dear AetherisIgnis, thank you very much. I will try to improve the trasparency of the edeagus. I also considered it was X. apenninicola, but I did not persevered in this conclusion because thought that this species occurs in different habitats. I caught it in a mesophilous meadow, not far from the sea. If I obtain a good preparation I will post a new photo. Thanks again Lorenzo |

Dear Jan, thank you a loto for the information uploaded. I have had already checked Bordoni's book and, indeed, it seems that this tove beetle occurs in hill and mountain hoods. However, the edeago appear very similar. I try to clearify it asap. Bye and thanks Lorenzo |

Dear Aleksei, thank you very much for your contribution. I agree with you, the sample fits very well with the X. apenninicola. What I find disappointing is that the big sclerite "tooth-shaped" observerd in the upper section of the sketches, appears in my sample as a tight bundle of micro-spines. Or, at least, this is my impression. Interestingly, before the NaOH treatment, this structure appeared as in the sketches. However, the anatomy of this is organ considered as a whole is surely more similar to the X. apenninicola than to any other species. Thanks to all ![]() Lorenzo |
