Hello,

this Tenebrionidae from Lecce is about 7mm. Perhaps a Nalassus? Is anything more possible?

Grazie,
Michael

Nalassus dermestoides/dryadophilus, impossibile distinguere da questa foto.

:) Ciao
Piero

Thank you for the answer. My old key from Reitter says:

dryadophilus: middle links of antennae of males on the apical side with long hairs. 6,5-10mm.
dermestoides: middle links of antennae of both gender only with "normal", few hairs. 8-10mm.

So here it should be N. dryadophilus, or is there a better criterion to look for?

Ciao
Michael

Hello Michael.
Your specimen does not show the long bristles characteristic of the antennomeres of the males dryadophilus; in any case, this looks like a female to me.
A useful character is the length of the metathoracic wings: almost as long as the elitra in dryadophilus, reduced to a short stump in dermestoides.

The metathoraric wing is the hind wing, right? I removed the left elytron (picture is mirrored), and the hind wing looks as follows - not really a short stump, but strongly reduced. So it is N. dermestoides, or?
