The Family contains a single Genus : Xiphydria
This Genus contains 7 European species.
- With Abdomen black & yellow , [♂ : Antennae black & yellow] : irrorata ♂ (♀ unknown)
- With Abdomen mainly or entirely reddish : megapolitana (only 2 cubital Cells), prolongata (3 cubital Cells)
- With Abdomen entirely black : betulae
As we see it on the joined photos, our capture is not one of these 4 species
Thus there remain 3 species :
- longicollis : Legs brown, Tibias with a basal white ring - [Antennae black]
- (Our capture has the Legs reddish & the Tibias without white ring)
- camelus : The 2 clear strips on the vertex do not reach the Eyes
Thus our capture is this last species [the most common of Genus], it was captured in Italy
