The species italica has changed that name, because Fausto Pesarini writes in French :
"Le nom considéré comme valide aujourd'hui est Corynis meridionalis (Konow, 1886) (le taxon “Cimbex italica Lepeletier, 1823” avait été mal interprété : il correspondait en fait à Corynis obscura (Fabricius, 1775) et non à C. italica)"

This rare sp., of south of Europe, was captured in France :
- In some warm depart. of the south (Ardèche, Corrèze, Drôme, Hérault, Lot, Lozère & Pyrénées-orientales).
- In Savoie.
- In Beaune (depart. Côte-d' Or), there is more than 1 century.

It is by capturing this Corynis that I could differentiate completely C. obscura & C. italica .

The Habitus are identical but :
- ♂ & ♀ , according to Chevin 2

C. italica : Length of internal spur of tibiae 3 ~ length of 1st article of tarsus.
C. obscura : Length of internal spur of tibiae 3 ~ 1/2 length of 1st article of tarsus.

- ♂ , according to Chevin 1

C. italica : The tergite 7 has a longitudinal depression.
C. obscura : The tergite 7 does not have longitudinal depression.

.. One can notice, but is this specific ?

C. italica : Stigma and costal & subcostal cells are dark brown.
C. obscura : Stigma and costal & subcostal cells are clear brown.
