Several pictures from our expedition to Tenerife and El Hierro this January..
Beside desplayed species we found many others, for example:
Deroplia albida (Brullé, 1839)
Deroplia annulicornis (Brullé, 1839)
Lepromoris gibba (Brullé, 1838)
Trichoferus machadoi Sama et Schurmann, 1983
Trichoferus fasciculatus (Faldermann, 1837) ssp. senex Wollaston, 1854
Trichoferus roridus (Brullé, 1838)
Stictoleptura palmi (Demelt, 1972)

Splendide specie...e splendidi posti !!! La zona di laurisilva sarà letteralmente ricolmo di pselafidi...sembra un posto davvero ideale !

Deroplia were adults inside wood in january right? Did you collected many kg. of wood too or only adults?

Adults of Deroplia spp. ("winter beetles") in January ON plants and IN pupal cells, other species ("summer beetles" - Delagrangeus schurmanni Sama, 1985, Lepromoris gibba (Brullé, 1838), Trichoferus machadoi Sama et Schurmann, 1983, Trichoferus fasciculatus (Faldermann, 1837) ssp. senex Wollaston, 1854, Trichoferus roridus (Brullé, 1838), Stictoleptura palmi (Demelt, 1972), Arhopalus pinetorum (Wollaston, 1863)) as larvae in the wood.. And also almost all species of Deroplia as larvae in the wood.. Blabinotus spinicollis Wollaston, 1854 as well - adults in pupal cells + larvae (adults hatch now, in June+July)..

Per non parlare delle mantidi! 7-8 specie per la zona, quasi tutte endemiche.

Absolutely not. 1) we always travel with travel agency as common tourist. 2) we always travel in normal clothes as common tourist (jeans, T-shirt - not in green trousers, vest and hat like Indiana Jones) with tourist luggage (suitcase on wheels, not backpack) 3) wood is hidden inside the luggage, among clothing and other stuff. Wood is hardly distinguishable on X-ray. Only problem we had several times on airport was the weight of our luggage (in was heavier than 15 kg)

Great relation. Once, while crossing a turkish border, I'd been asked to step aside. Securities interest was my wood, saw and machete and of course the resasons what I needed that for. Answer was obvious but still the security insisted till the chef-lady came, gazed at my stuff, shortly said "pionier, pionier!!!" and left. Moral is no interest in a dead turkish wood at all

Un bosco antico, e si respira un aria ancestrale quando si cammina tra allori delle dimensioni di faggi o ci si perde in mezzo a un intrico di ramaglia che ti avvolge completamente. E' anche un luogo esoterico, abbiamo trovato moltissime tracce di riti non del tutto "convenzionali"... roba da Blair witch project insomma... Dal punto di vista degli xilofagi non è un ambiente ricco. Essenzialmente vi si trovano soltanto due specie: stictoleptura palmi e blabinotus spinicollis. La prima sopratutto mi è parsa molto abbondante e diffusa, con larve facilmente rinvenibili all'interno di tronchi marcescenti al suolo.
