Dear Collegues,

These spider beetles were collected by me and my friends in Greece, in the last year. With my friend J. Borowski (specialist of Ptinidae and Bostrichidae from Poland) we think it is probably a new species. It is hard to proove that these beetles are one species, but in this case we collected both sexes together (about 10 specimens in different places).

I would like to ask some help from the Italian collegues: Is there anybody, who has collected Bruchoptinus in Northern-Middle Greece? I am really interested in those specimens, maybe they should be paratypes...

Is there any specialist, who has any opinion about these ones?

I would appreciate any kind of comments :)

non sono uno studioso di Ptinidae e non conosco la fauna greca, quindi non potrò esserti di molto aiuto.
Tra le specie italiane penso ci sia poco di simile.
Forse, Ptinus (Bruchoptinus) femoralis.

Al momento posso solo farti i complimenti per la scoperta della bella specie.

Thank you for your answer. I use google tranlater to understand Italian. It is not perfect, but it works.

Today I checked the types of Ptinus (Bruchoptinus) femoralis from Algeria (we have them in our collection: http://www.nhmus.hu/ColeoColl/Anobiidae_.html) , but they are different.
The hairs os female are stronger and longer on femoralis and the shape of its body is slightly ovate. So it is not femoralis. :)

Concordo.
Avevo indicato questa specie, solo come termine di paragone, di una specie simile, presente sia in Italia che in Grecia.
Praticamente possiamo escludere tutte le quattro specie indicate per l'Italia:
  Ptinus (Bruchoptinus) femoralis (Reitter, 1884);
  Ptinus (Bruchoptinus) italicus Aragona, 1830;
  Ptinus (Bruchoptinus) palliatus Perris, 1847;
  Ptinus (Bruchoptinus) rufipes Olivier, 1790;

Logicamente possiamo escludere anche questa specie (belle foto di ...):

Buongiorno, ha le specie di Bruchoptinus suscettibili di essere presente in Grecia. Ho eliminato la specie che conoscevo che non corrisponde alla specie in foto.
Resta le seguenti specie che non conosco.
Bruchoptinus Reitter, 1884
Ptinus brevivittis Reitter
Ptinus eduardi Pic, 1910
Ptinus henoni Pic, 1897
Ptinus ivanensis (Reitter, 1902)
Ptinus pellitus Desbrochers des L., 1875
Ptinus schatzmayeri Pic, 1934
Ptinus torretassoi Pic, 1934

Proverei a guardare, questa sera, le descrizioni originali concernente gli autori francese Pic e Desbrocher per vedere se possono corrispondere.
