Buongiorno,

there were many of those Dasytes, when I was in Lecce end of may. This one is ~ 4,8mm and is from the coast near Otranto.

I tried the old german key of Schilsky and compared it with distribution information on the Fauna Europaea. Somehow I landed at Dasytes tardus, but I am far from being sure. What is it? A little more detailed images can be supplied.

Grazie,
Michael

Buongiorno!

Thank you for the warning.

My old german key says:
tardus: Antennomeres 5-10 well 1,5 times as broad as long, serrate.
striatulus: Antennomere 5-10 only somewhat broader than long. Upside densly with gray hairs.

In my speciemen the antennae are not really serrate, an the bristles as well as the hairs are black or at least very dark brown. So both descriptions do not really fit. Do you have an italian key with clearer characteristics?

Ciao,
Michael

Hello Michael, no there is no better key unless you turn to dissection of males, but this one looks like a female. Often they remain undetermined.
