Ma non è finita e mi è capitato pure un Trogossitide....sicuramente del genere Tenebroides, forse il mauritanicus ??

Aggiungo un bel disegno di questa specie e le note che lo accompagnano, presenti su: Beetles associated with stored products in Canada: an identification guide. 1990 (scaricabile sul nostro forum da questa pagina) Tenebroides mauritanicus (Linnaeus) Diagnosis: The species is distinguished from the other beetles dealt with here by its general habitus. Superficially, it resembles some species of tenebrionids but differs readily from them in having the eye not incised by the side margin of the head and the anterior angle of the pronotum hook-like. Sexual dimorphism: Males have cribriform plates laterally on the anterior half of all visible abdominal sterna. Females have no such plates. Under the binocular microscope, the lateral part of the male abdominal sterna appears to have denser punctation, with punctures of various size. In females that area seems to have sparser and uniform punctation. Distribution: Cosmopolitan. Economic importance: The species is a notorious primary pest of grain, cereal products, nuts, and dried fruit, among other foods. Both adults and larvae feed on products of either plant or animal origin and prey on other stored-product insects. In addition, the larvae cause damage by burrowing into woodwork of storage places to pupate. |
