Hello,

No idea about this Sphenoptera from Azerbaidjan (Kelwaz - Talysh - 19 V 1999). Maybe Sphenoptera (Sphenoptera) traganthae, or probably something else ?

Many thanks for your help.

Dominique

Maybe, but it's quite difficult to be sure by photo.
Size?

@Maurizio

I'm aware that Sphenoptera is a difficult genus ! According to Löbl & Smetana, there are about 15 species of Sphneoptera stricto sensu in Azerbaidjan...

The size is 22 mm.

@Marco

Thanks, Marco, it's my first topic on this forum. :)

Hereunder the aedeagus.

In Löbl & Smetana (i.e. Volkovitsh & Kalashian for the Sphenopterini), S. magna is not given from Azerbaidjan.

oah,
-if is removed aedagus by depicted specimen (?), so its not S.tragacanthae and also its not S.magna.
Moreover, male pro- & metatibiae of both cited species are always curved.
I see this a little bit on protibiae only....

Maybe S.anthracina.... :?

The bup above is a female, and the aedeagus comes from a damaged male captured in the same place at the same moment (V. Dolin leg.).

I've prepared another male, with the aedeagus photographied in a different angle :

Ilja, please write in English! Your sentences, automatically translated into Italian, are difficult to understand, and sometimes hilarious! :hi:

you probably woud mean:
Polymorphic beetle, very variable in size, with many synonyms
(coleottero polimorfico, molto variabile in dimensioni, con molti sinonimi).

but when we read your text, the meaning is: scarab many faces, sizes, and most of synonyms.
