Altra piccola ma splendente specie di Chrysobothris della fauna del Nord America.
Questo maschio non sono sicuro di quale specie sia. Dalle chiavi dicotomiche di Horn, che purtroppo risalgono a quasi 130 anni fa, sarei arrivato a:

Chrysobothris (Chrysobothris) scitula Gory, 1841

Anche da quanto si vede nelle immagini sul Web, potrebbe essere questa specie, ma devo ancora controllare se dopo la suddetta monografia ne siano state descritte altre specie simili.

Maurizio, c'è una monografia degli anni '70, di cui non ricordo l'autore e di cui posso prestarti le fotocopie. Me la procurai negli anni dei viaggi alle Canarie per studiare un Chrysobothris di Gran Canaria che avevo il sospetto potesse essere una bestia neartica importata. Non lo era, e mi è stato sfilato da una gang di tedeschi che lo ha descritto come Chrisobothris grancanariae.... Peccato, soprattutto per il nome orripilante che gli è stato dato. Ciao, A.

It looks very similar, but not 100%. Well, I haven't any specimen and not so sure, but look at this image and there are differences in the pronotum sculpture and lateral margins. Maybe it is just a variation. http://www.freshfromflorida.com/Divisio ... gy-Section


Do you know Ted MacRae? http://beetlesinthebush.wordpress.com/author/tcmacrae/ He is the only American "buprestidaro" I know right now.

Yes, I noticed there are some differences, especially pronotal sides, but also other small differences. However, I have one specimen, only, and I don't know intraspecific variation.


Yes, I know Ted, but he's not the only "buprestidaro" in the USA. There are others: Richard Westcott (mostly specialized in Chrysobothris and Acmaeodera), Henry Hespenheide (mostly Agrilinae), ....

Unluckily two of the best specialists in the World died recently: William F Barr (2011), and Charles (Chuck) Bellamy (2013).
