Clickie ha scritto: Cita: These characters should be able to be examined to an Agrilus Hi there, Adrian, thanks yr "splash panel" with the obliged characters to be checked. I think you can add to the "checklist" the characteristic setae of the metatarsomeres, that are a typical feature of the A.roscidus group of species. Bests, A. Yes, it looks like a roscidus, but the aedeagus is much more elongated and slender than the one of roscidus. I am wondering if those scaterred oaks have not Loranthus. There are some species which develop in Loranthus or Viscum. Is this a key which use the setae of the metatarsomeres? I wish to know and use. But I would include in that "splash panel" the host plant. Several times it helps alot.

Che so, 4-5 o 6-7.
In caso affermativo, gruppo roscidus conclamato. Ciao, A.

Confermi?

Adrian, you find the citation of the setae on roscidus in the keys of the Agrilus made by Schaefer (1949, faune de France) . Page 356 point 60(63). gian

Cita: I am wondering if those scaterred oaks have not Loranthus. There are some species which develop in Loranthus or Viscum. Hi Adrian, me too I've thought to A. graecus (= A. viscivorus), but this species is usually bicoloured (based on about 300 specimens from a very lucky collecting, a few years ago on the Khelmos mountain in Peloponnese). According to the pictures here available, this doesn't occur with the specimen treated. Cita: Is this a key which use the setae of the metatarsomeres? I wish to know and use. This feature was used by Bily' in the paper where he described Agrilus viscivorus, nowadays A. gracus, and A. kubani, where he also gave drawings of this character, that in my opinion is of high value within the difficult group of Agrilus roscidus: BÍLÝ, S. 1991. Two new species of Agrilus roscidus species-group from central Europe (Coleoptera, Buprestidae). Acta Entomol. Bohemoslov., 88: 371-375.Unfortunately, no authors followed his statement later on.

Cita: But I would include in that "splash panel" the host plant. Several times it helps alot. I do agree, but only when the specimens have been reared from the host. Otherwise, it's absolutely not useful. Just an example: in a forest of the Southern Apennines the following species were collected (by myself and Franco Izzillo) on foliage of a single bush of Cornus mas isolated in a sunny spot of the forest, during a brief "sunny window" around 13-14 p.m.: A. angustulus, A. hastulifer, A. graminis, A. laticornis, A.bipunctatus, A.integerrimus. All these species more or less hosts of Quercus, apart from integerrimus. The host plant is very often is very different from the "tanning" plant, as you surely know Bests, A.

A.
