Hi,

probably the last one for today.
a small species 4-5 mm, collected in 24.may.2010 (Leg. A.Pintilioaie) in a hilly area (46.426389/26.442500) in eastern part of Romania.
is possible to have an ID? ... I know the preparation is very ugly.

Elampus sp.; i need a more magnified picture of metanotal apophysis, in dorsal view, and one of the tip of abdomen, in posterior view, to see the shape of apical plate... and i hope this will be enough

the preparation is indeed somewhat unsatisfactory ... but mainly because wings in such position (due to an attempt to spread them) prevent seeing of mesopleura, sometimes crucial in Elampus determination

Hi Maurizio,

not yet sure what are metanotal apophysis but will do that in couple of days in the morning I go in the field for couple of days, will be back saturday night or sunday.
regarding the preparation, to be honest I'm somehow satisfied that is in one piece. was in alcohol and was just a hard ball when taken out.

in Elampus spp. the metanotum is projecting rearwards into a broad, flat, more or less triangular plate, in lateral view appearing as a kind of blade

in dorsal view, its shape (e.g. apex sharply pointed vs. broadly blunt) may offer useful diagnostic features (i had forgotten to ask for, but together with the plate, please include also the scutum, to see punctuation)


one more reason not to attempt to completely spread the wings, an unnecessary and also troublesome action; wings fairly raised and spread about 45° with mid-line (i.e. just spread enough not to hid propodeal angles in dorsal view) fit perfectly
