Hello, I have this small wasp identified as probably Diodontus major, it can be confirmed? Or at least the genus is correct? :hi: :hi:
Collected using malaise trap in a coastal dunes habitat, Romania. :hi:

Sì,
maschio di Diodontus sp.

Conosco direttamente solo il maschio di Diodontus friesei.
Il tuo esemplare potrebbe esserlo.

Con Fauna de France (manca il D. friesei) effettivamente si arriva a Diodontus major.
Con Fauna d'Italia (manca il D. major) si arriva a Diodontus friesei.

I caratteri per distinguere i maschi delle due specie, secondo la descrizione, dovrebbero essere:
Mesonotum non microscopicamente rugoso, liscio. Lunghezza 3,5-5 mm. = D. friesei;
Mesonotum microscopicamente reticolato ("alutaceum") Lunghezza 4-5,5 mm. = D. major.

La reticolatura (microscultura) è chiaramente visibile nella zona del riflesso della luce. :hi:

Ho dei dubbi.

Il micro reticolo mi sembra leggerissimo.
Anche nel mio D. freisei è così.
Per ritenerlo alutaceo penso dovrebbe essere simile a quello della testa tra gli occhi.
“Dessus de la tête et scutum microsculptés, mats”.

Hi Giuseppe, I took a picture of the head and you are right, the microsculpture here is much more evident that the one from mesonotum, so this means maybe that my specimen is D. friesei? :hi: :roll:

Come detto conosco direttamente solo il maschio di D. freisei ed il tuo esemplare è molto simile.
Anche nel mio esemplare la microscultura della parte superiore della testa è poco più "forte" di quella del mesonotum. E' però sicuramente "opaca".
