Un collega mi ha chiesto di esporre questa specie ad un forum italiano e di chiedere aiuto per la determinazione.

A very old specimen of Zygaena (Mesembrynus) cfr. minos/purpuralis. The only way of separing them is to dissect genitalia. However, above 2000 m it is very unlike to find Z. minos, so knowing the locality more precisely could solve the problem. I suspect that it's a low altitude part of Alpe di Siusi, because the specimen is already old and it has been collected at the beginning of july, but maybe your friends remembers where he was exactly when he collected the specimen. |

Bertaccini E. & Fiumi G., 1999 in their book show in table 4 a yellow specimen like this under Zygaena purpuralis f. grossmanni Rühl, 1898, collected in Germany, Blautal, VII-1933.

I think the yellow colour could either be natural or an effect of light. Red chemical colour is highly impacted by light, and turns in yellow very quickly. |
