This days was a lot in the field specially in mountain area searching also for dragonflies, and very interested in searching for potential places for Somatochlora alpestris (Selys, 1840).
This is rare in the southern part of Europe (for example in Italy only in extreme north part, in Alps). After the last guide (Dijkstra & Lewington, 2006) the presence of this species in Romania was a question. Now I can say that I have found around 20 population in different parts (more or less in all Carpathians).
Here the distribution of this species in Romania can be seen (with blues, record from literature, at least one is more likely to be based on a wrong identification, for the other two no specimens are to be found in collection... but this are still on the map). Also several point needs to be added just I was not able yet to update de maps.
At a site visited (a new point for this species) in 12.july.2010 (Cindrel Mountains) a large population was found (usually you see only 1-2 specimens at a site) of at least 30 specimens. So a lot of activity there (in a "pond" of something like 10 m in diameter). In attached photos one female, one resting and one ovipositing.
