Here is a specimen of newly established Polistes mongolicus du Buysson, 1911 (doi: 10.3897/zookeys.713.11335). Closely related to Polistes gallicus, separated by colour pattern only (a regular nightmare in Polistes). Small species, the specimen measures 12 mm.

Also male; predominantly black under-side of thorax, no yellow markings on the anterior part of second sternite, and lightly coloured antennae.
