It is not a member of Tetramorium. None of European species has such long thoracic spines like specimen on photo. It looks rather like a member of Temnothorax rottenbergi group. |

Lech are you sure!!  Yesterday I found another  ...and another one much larger with two very long spines, but very long

This one is also a member of the genus Temnothorax but different group. |

Several species of Temnothorax are associated with oak trees. They penetrate holes of other insects and hunting on larvae of many groups (like Anobiidae, Cerambycidae, hymenopterous insects etc.). Some species form small nests under bark, or under stone close to oak stem. |

In my opinion not T. rottenbergii or close species because of: too short spines and angulated petiole (T. rottenbergii has a particularly rounded petiole): http://www.antweb.org/bigPicture.do?nam ... p&number=1 I think Temnothorax angustulus (Nylander, 1856). Mi è capitato per caso di rivedere questo post. Nel frattempo c'è stata una revisione del gruppo angustulus. A mio parere le foto sono chiare per rideterminare la specie qui: Temnothorax mediterraneus. Aggiungo che tutto il materiale di questo gruppo che ho visto da centro e sud Italia fino ad ora lo ho rideterminato tutto come mediterraneus. |
