Very stout petiolus and pale colour suggest that it is rather Ponera testacea. |

"What is distribution of this species in Italy?" It is diffucult to answer, species status of P. testacea) was revised recently: S. Csösz & B. Seifert, Acta Zoologica Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae 49 (3), pp. 211–223, 2003: PONERA TESTACEA EMERY, 1895 STAT. N. – A SISTER SPECIES OF P. COARCTATA (LATREILLE, 1802) (HYMENOPTERA, FORMICIDAE) and its distribution in Europe is little known. Our materials from Balkan Peninsula suggests that P. testacea is quite rare but more common on dry, warm localities especialy in light oak forests on limestones while P. testacea prefers darker and more humid habitats (in Poland P. testacea has similar preferences) although in southern Greece in few cases we collected both species in the same localities. |
