Pensa che quel testone piatto a squama (che dà il nome al genere) gli serve per tappare i fori di entrata dei nidi nel legno ed impedire l'entrata agli intrusi. Fanno una cosa simile anche i Colobopsis, però questi lo fanno in modo più... spettacolare.

Qui da noi lo fanno le Camponotus truncatus. luigi

Certo, che è un Colobopsis. E' il sottogenere di Camponotus con quella testa tronca a forma di tappo nelle operaie maggiori e regine.

Thank you I'm still searching for their nests to observe this behaviour, but until now I could only find some solitary foraging.
