as an advice, hope that you don't mind.
when photographing ventral part of a butterflies you go very close to your background... and is hard to obtain a clean/shadow-less image. to obtain this I have build something like a cylinder in which I pin the butterfly. the butterflies will have in that way a big distance and the background will be like when photographing the dorsal part.

Yeah, thanks, I always accept advices, specially from a talented photographer like you :ok:
I hate to photograph the ventral side, and I usually didn't, and then I don't dedicate so much time :oops: If you can take a picture of your cylinder, and show that, it would be nice :)

here it is... made from plastatoze ( :?: not sure about the name) with a pin in middle for all the length... hope this helps you... now photos of Z.p. in preparation... and another one ;)
