Hi! It is not an Ophonus, but certainly a Parophonus. Later I will try and see what species.

Have a good day ;)

I think Parophonus (Parophonus) planicollis (Dejean 1829)

it's not so easy  ... apart from being P. planicollis (Dejean, 1829) the actually valid name for the species formerly named P. suturalis (while the former P. planicollis currently is P. laeviceps), in bulgaria two further species occur, more or less similar, namely P. dejeani (the former P. complanatus) and P. dia

in my unreliable opinion :oooner: this, having pronotum sides posteriorly slightly convex, without any trace of sinuation, does not seem P. laeviceps  ...

:hi:
If you are talking about this species http://www.entomologiitaliani.net/public/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=143&t=11514
it is not the same.
I would exclude P.dejeani,too

i was not talking about that, the "current" planicollis, i.e. the "former" suturalis, of course to be absolutely excluded... conversely, about the "former" planicollis, currently laeviceps

i'm indeed not sure the question can be solved without a male specimen  ...

I was already expecting this result. Parophonus are so hard to collect.

hi boys
i had completely forgotten this

first, i was wrong (due to faulty memory due to senile degeneration :oooner: ): the "former" Parophonus planicollis is currently P. hespericus, while P. laeviceps is to be found in older literature and collections as P. fallax

i have never seen P. dia, yet according to riccardo-ricdoc57 :lov2: , it's to be excluded, being a convex species, more similar to P. dejeanii

therefore, only P. hespericus and P. laeviceps remain, and since the former has a pronotum more elongate, with distinctly narrower base...

Parophonus laeviceps (Ménétries, 1832) :hp: :hp: :hp:

p.s. i move again the post for a few time into "nuove richieste di determinazione", to avoid it goes overlooked
