I think that this is Pogonocherus eugeniae taygetanus Pic, 1903. But waiting Gianfranco's advice because I'm not sure and I've just tried

I also would say P. e. taygetanus, but the locality is rather unusual for this subspecies. As far as I know, taygetanus only lives in Peloponnese while Preveza is in central western Greece. All P. eugeniae I know from this part of Greece belong to the nominotypical subspecies. There are Abies in Preveza ?

| Sorry Ivo, I do not understand your doubt. 7 = distribution area of Abies alba;inside this area, E = Pogonocherus eugeniae ; T = taygetanus (only in Peloponnese)

P.e.taygetanus only Peloponnes. My species is from Preveza.

In fact Gianfranco has a doubt because however your specimen seems belonging to ssp. taygetanus the locality of your exemplar is out of the range of P.e. taygetanus. In the literature this ssp. is known only from Peloponnes, and the nomotypical ssp. from the other countries of his range. So Gianfranco asked you (supposing an enlargement of ssp. taygetanus range) if in the collecting locality there are exemplars of Abies alba, without that P.eugeniae can't, in general, live. So I think that you should ask the collector this question. |
