This time the illustrated story of my meeting with Nothorhina punctata (FABRICIUS, 1798)

I met this interesting longhorn beetle in many positions, since I understood what habitat they prefer.

Thank you very much Marco! For 15 years, I spend a lot of time in the woods and the meadows, looking for many destinations all longhorn beetles. Knowledge of the books is very important, but even more important are personal encounters with nature. And that's why I do not want to watch Nothorhina punctata in the pictures. I prefer to see it live !

Ma in Italia non c'è la N. muricata ?? ....o sono la stessa cosa?? ...o mi sbaglio?? ..o era meglio che stavo zitto??

Da quanto ho capito muricata e punctata sono considerati sinonimi, ma alcuni ritengono valido muricata, altri punctata. Ciao Francesco, il nome corretto è Nothorhina muricata (Dalman, 1817). Il nome punctatum (Fabricius, 1798) non è chiaro a cosa si riferisca (molto probabilmente Ropalopus femoratus). Quello che ho sul database è quanto segue. According to Lipp (1937: 55) the type material of Callidium punctatum Fabricius should be preserved in the Berliner Zoologische Museum and would prove to be a synonym of Callidium muricatum Dalman. However, there is no proves that the specimens labelled by Schüppel “punctatum F.* muricatum Schh.” is the type specimen of Fabricius. According to the original description (“ C.thorace pubescente, nigrum punctatum, femoribus rubris, antennis mediocribus”), Callidium punctatum Fabricius, 1798 must be referred to Ropalopus femoratus Linnaeus, 1758 (see also Redtenbacher (1845: 153, foot note), and Aurivillius (1912: 338). Nothorhina has whole red legs not only “femoribus rubris”. Moreover, Fabricius gives to his Callidium punctatum the same size (“statura sequentium ...”) as Callidium (now Ropalopus) hungaricum, which evidently does not agree whit Nothorhina. Pertanto al momento il nome da usare è muricata. Pierpaolo
