Genus Agapanthia is a difficult topic. Their determination is not easy - especially on the basis of photographs. Dear Pierpaolo, could you explain why you think it's A. cynarae? Claudio, you can specify the size of the specimen? |

Hi Adam, in my opinion it is A. cynarae according the general shape of the body, the particular color of the third antennal joint and for the color of elytral pubescence. Agapanthia maculicorins is darker, denser pubescent on elytra, with stronger antennae and flatter body. For all of this characters I'm quite sure that it is Agapanthia cynarae. Moreover the locality (Korintos) is not realistic for Agapanthia maculicornis. Pierpaolo |

Three years ago was a very similar case - I explained to Adam differenties between A.cynarae and A.maculicornis. The very long dispute lasted over ten days. Finally A.cynarae had to stay A.cynarae (det.Kurzawa) not A.maculicornis (det.Woźniak ![]() http://www.entomo.pl/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 14#p144614 (in polish) |
