Hi, Found this cerambycid in tree exemplars on some logs of spruce (Picea abies). In Transylvania in Trascau Mountains (46.392730/23.426384) in 24.july.2010. Callidium coriaceum Paykull, 1800 - Photo and legit Cosmin O. Manci, 3 specimens - a confirmation will be welcome. Tryed to do some photos of mounted specimens, I hope will be better on future, now I don't have a macro lens (70-200 and a lot of rings). cosmln

Sorry Cosmin, I think Hylotrupes bajulus (Linnaeus, 1758) rather than Callidium

I have a H.bajulus collected a day before and is completely different, at least in my eyes... will post a photo later. this are very small (2 specimens are of 9 mm and 1 of 10 mm) cosmln |

Ciao Cosmin  Tieni presente che H. bajulus è una specie estremamente "polimorfica" avendo una variabilità estrema, che si esprime in primo luogo nelle dimensioni. Vi sono individui piccoli fino a 7 mm, altri che oltrepassano i 20 mm! Negli esemplari di piccole dimensioni, come quello da te fotografato, le macchie pubescenti sulle elitre scompaiono quasi del tutto, tanto da fare assumere a questa specie un aspetto complessivo assai diverso. |

Cosmin, have a look at the picture, taken from my Atlas: at left the male. Your specimen is exactly the same. This species is very variable both as shape and size. |
