The one in the photo has a slightly grayish color. H. marklini, on the other hand, is a little more like brown. The species on the Turkey checklist are as follows. I couldn't find a photo of the other species. If H. marklini remains by elimination, it is definitely it. SP Hygrotus ahmeti Hájek, Fery and Erman, 2005 SP Hygrotus armeniacus (Zaitzev, 1927) SP Hygrotus confluens (Fabricius, 1787) SP Hygrotus enneagrammus (Ahrens, 1833) SP Hygrotus lernaeus (Schaum, 1857) SP Hygrotus marklini (Gyllenhal, 1813) SP Hygrotus pallidulus (Aubé, 1850) SP Hygrotus saginatus (Schaum, 1857) SP Hygrotus parallellogrammus (Ahrens, 1812) SP Hygrotus inaequalis (Fabricius, 1777) SP Hygrotus impressopunctatus (Schaller, 1783) Source: http://www.faunaturkey.com/aquatic-coleoptera/ |

Among all the species listed for Turkey, H. marklini is the only one with non vittate elytra, I don't think that more grayish or brownish colour makes any difference, but who knows... with these beasts it is always good to keep some specimen for male genitals ![]() |

However, I did not want to take an example just because I would learn his name. After all, I am not doing an academic study. I save it as H. marklini in my archive. I'm convinced ![]() ![]() |
